To pronounce the word OWL in Dutch is not easy. The Dutch word for OWL is “UIL” (pronounce:  /œy̯l/). When my kids were younger, I playfully taught them how to pronounce these kind of words with -ui- by reading stories to them, like “Good Night Owl” in English. Then they would know what the story was about. But then read the book again in Dutch. I also showed them one of my childhood TV shows: “Meneer de Uil”. It was very complicated to listen to, as a small child. I think it was more about the puppets and the song.

Owl Craft

I like owls! And that’s one of the reasons why M and I got creative with paper bags, construction paper and real feathers to make a fun owl craft.

For the older kids or moms (hehe) I found this craft that I would LOVE to make one time!! But now it is time for a craft for the little ones.

  1. Leave the lunch bag folded flat. The bottom part of the bag is facing away from you. Cut the 2 corners off from the bottom part of the bag, so you’ll get a triangular shape in the middle of the owl’s forehead.
  2. Cut 2 black circles out of construction paper that will fit in the cupcake liners or color 2 big dark circles in the cupcake liners. Glue them in the cupcake liners and carefully flatten them. Glue the cupcake liners under the bottom, triangular part of the bag.
  3. Cut strips of colorful scrap book paper with scalloped scissors. Glue the strips on the tummy.
  4. Use feathers for wings and construction paper for the feet.
  5. Have fun with your owl!
