Dutch Crafts for Moms

5 Adorable Decoration Ideas for a girls bedroom.

A few weeks ago I kinda finished our 6-year old daughter’s bedroom. I say “kinda”, because you always THINK you’re done, but then you’ll find something that needs to be improved or something I’ll find on Pinterest that is just too adorable! I ended up with these 5 adorable decoration ideas for girls bedroom.

1. A handy Bedside Organizer with Pockets

I found this cute Pocket Organizer made by Sew Can She on Pinterest. I thought: Well, that’s IT! There is not much room between the bed and the desk. Here is the solution!

The lady of Sew Can She has a great tutorial on her blog. It’s the perfect size and it’s so fun with mix and match fabrics. She used a stabilizer, which looks like a kind of foam. I didn’t have that on hand, but instead I used a fusible fabric stabilizer (Pellon) from Walmart. The non-slip liner I still had in my craft area from lining shelves at my Craft Café.

Go to her blog to find the measurements of the fabric she used. Instead of sandwiching the foam in between the fabrics, I ironed the fusible stabilizer on one (wrong) side of the fabric and sandwiched after that.

She also made these beautiful stitches to keep the foam in place and make the pockets sturdier. I was just afraid that my machine wouldn’t get through.

You’ll find useful tips on how to sew the binding around the corner or what to do if your machine wont go if you’re sewing the anti-slip liner.

NOTE: The non-slip liner is holding up very nicely after a few weeks of using it, but I needed to reinforce the bottom of the pockets.

2. Bird Houses on a Branch decoration

Girls bedroom ideas

Number 2 on the list of these 5 adorable bedroom decoration ideas is this branch with cute little hand painted bird houses.

On M’s birthday 2 years ago we did a crafty activity with her friends. December can be a tricky month to have kid’s birthday’s here in the Midwest, so I always try to have some activities and games ready for them, just in case. I bought these wooden bird houses in all shapes and sizes at Walmart, so I was sure there were some left for me:) Below you’ll find a some at Amazon.

Then, in 2016, when we visited the Netherlands, we spend one night at a Bed and Breakfast and M was reading a book underneath a big wooden heart with cute little sticks and…bird houses.

That is how this idea came about. I found a curly stick in our yard and peeled the bark off. The bird houses were painted with acrylic crafting paint and used painters tape to get straight lines. I made the dots with the round-tipped foam brushes and finished the houses with mod podge.

You can use two brass hooks to hang up the branch and add hooks and twine to hang up the bird houses.

3. Super cozy PomPom rug as a bedroom decoration.

Decoration ideas for a girls bedroom

This is a project, I started a year ago. So once in a while I make a few pompoms and add them to the rug. I’m excited about the finished result. It’s a good amount of work, but I love this decoration idea for our girls bedroom.

I choose 4 colors. I didn’t know in the beginning how much I needed. It was more than I thought, so I took the risk of not finding the exact color. And that is also really what happened. I couldn’t find the pink color with the glitter anymore.

I used the pompom maker set and about 6 skeins of each color. It was the easiest way to make a LOT of pompoms!

4. Art Pin board with cloth pins

All our kids have a pin board made of cork and wood to hang art pieces from school or anything else they made. This is another needed and adorable bedroom decoration idea.

The one in M’s room looks a little boring and she was saying that some of her art work is heavy (glue and paint) and she didn’t want to damage her art work.

So I added small pompoms around the edge and twine with cloth pins on the bottom to add extra space for art pieces. (pics coming soon).

5. Colorful Flag banner

This banner just gives the room a fun touch. It’s so playful, especially in the evening when we have the little lights on and reading books together.

Materials:

Look for fun prints on the scrapbook paper to compliment the atmosphere in the room. Use the template to make the desired amount of triangles. Make holes with the hole punch on the 2 corners of the triangle and weave the twine through the holes. Make sure that the middle part is in the back, so you can tape the twine in place. Otherwise it’ll curl.

If the tape doesn’t work, you can laminate each triangle, so it is more sturdy to keep each shape.
