How to make a DIY Travel Journal?

Summer is here and people are waking up from something what seemed like a year long hibernation, getting out their houses and making plans to go on trips again. 2020 and 2021 so far have been challenging years for so many people. But some people are ready to travel again. I wasn’t really ready, but my husband was. So, two weeks ago we went on a trip to New Orleans. I was thinking more of a quiet cabin in the mountains kind of thing. Interacting with other humans is a little too soon for me! Still this was an amazing city and I was thinking how to capture these pictures and memories? Especially when we are (hopefully) going on a world trip soon. After doing some research, I would like to make my own little Travel Journal to bring with me everywhere! How do you make a DIY Travel Journal?

How to make a Travel Journal cover?

How to start a Travel Journal

To make this kind of Travel Journal is not for everyone. Some people collect their pictures online and print out an album, or make an online scrapbook. On Etsy you can find great Travel Journal Stickers, like these or these.

But I like to draw, write, color and make a fun keepsake out of my Journal where I can put envelopes with tickets, tape things we find, in it.

I bought a mixed media journal without lines (you can get them at Walmart and Michaels). I have a ton of scrapbook paper and my favorite pens. In the video below I’ll show you how to make a Travel Journal cover.

Materials for the cover:

  • scrapbook paper
  • tacky glue and mod podge
  • paint brush
  • stickers or coloring page
  • markers
  • white and golden or silver pens
  • ribbons or raffia

How to make a page in your Journal

In the video below you’ll find an example page, but the idea’s are of course endless. Here are some materials you can use:
