We cannot have enough journals, right! If you want to buy a good looking journal, they can be way more expensive than the plain grey and white covered journals. But what if you can make the cover as fun as you want!!! Here is a DIY tutorial “How to make a fun Journal Cover” as part of my weekly DIY projects.
Covering school books
When I went to middle and high school in the Netherlands, we borrowed the books from school. Before school started in September, we picked up our school books at school with our huge and already heavy school bags. We didn’t have lockers like the ones here in the US. I really hope they have them now in the Netherlands, because it was crazy, dragging all the books you needed for that day, from class room to class room!
The school wanted to keep all the books for as many years as they could, so they asked the parents students, to cover the books. My mom helped me in my first year how to do that. Over the years, the paper we used became more elaborate until the last year of school, I just used plain brown craft paper and doodled on it throughout the year.
How to cover a book or journal.
For this project, I used a plain old journal, scrap book paper, some ribbon, a white pen, scissors and glue.
Here are the steps:
- Be sure the paper is big enough. I used 2 pieces which looked cute together and glued the together. And added some lacy ribbon. Open up the journal and lay it on top of the paper, you should have about 1 inch more paper on each side.
2. Then I folded the paper in half, so you know where the middle is. Put the journal on the right side of the middle of the paper (see picture below).
3. Cut triangles out from the top and bottom of the scrap book paper. And cut the 4 corners off.
4. Gently fold the scrap book paper over the inside of the journal covers and glue in place.
5. You can leave the journal as is, or you can use magazine pictures and all kinds of things to decorate your new journal!
I hope you liked this project…..I did for sure! And oh, before I forget, here are some Travel Journal Stickers if you’re going to make your Journal into a Travel Journal
Please, let me know how your journal looks like. You can add a picture in the comments or on my Facebook page
