Summer Crafts for young kids which are educational too.

Summer time means summer crafts. Also for the little ones and what is better than doing fun summer crafts which are also educational. Think about fine motor skills, concentration, hand-hand coordination, hand-eye coordination, pencil grip (you can use thick pencil grips on paint brushes) and tactile sensory integration.

Fourth of July! A new Holiday for me. I only know this holiday from TV series and American movies. Now we live in the USA for quite some time, and we always go to a park to watch the fireworks. It is like the Netherlands on New Years Eve. (btw. New Years Eve here has no fireworks at all, at least not in a small rural town in Iowa). It is actually nice to enjoy the outdoors and watch the fireworks on a blanket under the clear sky!

HAPPY 4th OF JULY and have a wonderful rest of your summer!!!

Fireworks craft for little kids

M helped me make this video! It was so much fun!!!

Materials you need:

  • toilet paper rolls
  • black paper
  • tempera paint
  • brushes
  • water in a bowl
  • kitchen paper
  • tape
  • newspaper
  • scissors
  • glitter

Tape a piece of black card stock paper on top of newspaper. Show your child how to cut the toilet paper roll (see video below). Cut it when you child is to small or has a hard time to cut the toilet paper roll.

Paint one color on the strips with a brush and push the roll on the black paper.

Use different colors with different rolls. Clean off the brush every time you use a new color.

Optional: make thunderstorm and use glitter;)

Painting Sunny Summer rocks

These are so easy to make and fun for little kids to do. They can use small brushes, Q-tips, their fingers etc.

They can use them for a fairy garden, for stepping stones, or they can make the colors and an adult can write a sweet something on it and leave it throughout town, for other kids to find.

Paper lanterns

These will be so cute when you’re having a picnic with family and friends. Add tea lights with batteries and it’ll be safe to use.

More Happy July Banners

Talking about red-white-blue, here is a fun and easy crafts for kids to do. They can help with the fun decorations.

Spray paint art

This project is even more fun in a hammock!

If you have a hammock, put the loops on one hook. Let your child lay on the tummy in the hammock. Place a big piece of paper underneath the hammock and give your child spray bottle with washable paint (here is a good recipe). If it is too hard for your child to use spray bottles, he/she can also use finger paint and make art like that!

Fishing for words, letters or numbers

Make a boat first (this can be a laundry basket or putting some chairs together). For blue water you can add a blue table cloth under the boat.

Then make a fishing pole out of a stick, a rope and a magnet.

Then make fish. You can make them out of felt or paper. Write a letter, a number or a word on the fish. It depends on what your child wants to learn. Add a paperclip on each fish.

If you don’t want to make these fishes with your child, here is a cute, pre-made fishing pole set from Fetrikshop with felted fish.

Let’s go fishing!!!
