And…..we’re on our way! To Knoxville Tennessee. It is May 22, 2018 and there are 2 teams (13 students) going to Globals Finals. Here you can read all about Destination Imagination. And we’ll start at Day 1.
These teams worked so hard the last months (I think they started in October 2017) to solve the challenges they chose. One team has an engineering challenge and one a science one.
Last Saturday we had our showcase which doubled as a fundraising as well. Thanks to all the sponsors, family and friends who supported these teams financially and emotionally! These next blog posts are not only for the stay-at-home parents, but for all of you who are interested and have supported Destination Imagination for all of these years.
ENJOY!!!

5:15 AM:
We are at the school, waiting for the bus to arrive. It is slowly getting lighter and lighter outside and the backdrops, props and costumes are ready to be packed into the bus. Everyone arrived, parents and kids give hugs and wishing each other a great trip and fun time. But where is the bus?
5:45 AM:
Finally the bus arrived! It was the thick fog that kept the driver from driving the normal speed limit.
Now we had another challenge: How to fit the back drop into the luggage area below? We tried all kinds of positions, but it didn’t work. We almost wanted to take the PVC pipes and the wheels off, but first we could try to fit it in the back of the bus. And luckily…it did! The rest of the props, boxes and luggage all fit underneath the bus.
6:20 AM:
And off we go! The sun is coming through, but the fog is still there till about 11 AM. The bus driver takes us over the Mississippi and through a big part of Illinois. Somewhere around Champagne, another bus driver is taking over and we say goodbye and thanks to Chuck the first bus driver. Lunch at about 1:45 PM. There were many options. We split up in different groups with an adult supervising the groups.
2:30 PM:
And there we were in the bus again. After the movie “Jumanji”, we had a short break at a Truck Stop. Unfortunately the air conditioning was not working. We had a bathroom break and in the meantime the bus driver could fix the air conditioning with some help from a mechanic on the phone. The restroom break didn’t go well, because the place didn’t have water for the last 3 days. I spare you the details! Everyone in the bus again! Meditation and the movie “Aristocats” was on.
8:40 PM, the end of Day 1.
Arrive in Knoxville, Tennessee. It was time to register. We all went for dinner at Chipotle and in the meantime two of our organizers went to the campus to check us in. We picked them up and went to the hotel.
We’re finally here! It is time to sleep… it is midnight…it is us, girls from Daily Problems in a comfortable hotel bed, signing off!!! Goooood Night!
